After several weeks off, FÜSPORT - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki returned to action this weekend in the WorldSSP300 at the famous Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola in Italy. With scorching hot conditions - even in the shade! - it became a challenge for man and machine. But a challenge that Petr Svoboda and his teammate Troy Alberto took on full of motivation and enthusiasm. This resulted in promising results in the Superpole, as Petr finished third and secured himself a front row starting spot. Troy also rode strongly and ended in thirteenth place during the Superpole, just half a second from the top five.
In the first race, on Saturday afternoon, everything went according to plan for Petr for a long time; he was fighting for P3 and seemed to be on his way to another podium. But due to a near-highsider at the end of the race, he lost a lot of time with just a few laps to go. Although it was especially impressive that he didn't crash.... Unfortunately, there was not much time to recover so Petr had to be satisfied with fourteenth place. Teammate Troy also had to overcome a few challenges in the first of two races and ended up 0.235 seconds short of the final World Championship point.
The goal for Sunday's race was clear for both Petr and Troy after Saturday's challenges, as both riders wanted to show that a much better result was possible with just a little more luck. With once again blisteringly hot conditions, Petr fought for all he was worth in a big group battling for P4 to eventually cross the finish line in eighth place. Troy was heading to a World Championship point for a long time but was overtaken just before the end of the race to finish 16th again.
In the WorldSSP300 standings, Petr is now third while Troy is 26th.
Team manager Rob Vennegoor: ‘This was not just any race weekend, but one we will remember for a very long time because of the heat. A big compliment to both riders and team members who had to work under extreme conditions, as with temperatures up to over forty degrees it is not easy to keep focus. The fact that everyone managed to do so says a lot about the team spirit within FÜSPORT - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki. Unfortunately, things weren't too good in both races, but that can happen sometimes and is part and parcel of motor racing. In terms of race pace, it was good and that is the most important fact for the rest of the season.’
The next WorldSSP300 race weekend is in two weeks’ time at Most in the Czech Republic. A special weekend for Petr who will be riding his home race. After a successful IDM weekend at Most, earlier this year, FÜSPORT - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki is ready for the last WorldSSP300 weekend before the long summer break of the WorldSBK starts. But before Most, all riders of FÜSPORT - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki will start next weekend during the IDM Supersport 300 weekend at Schleiz, the IDM highlight of the year.
