Strong start for Inigo Iglesias Bravo and Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki after strong WorldSSP300 weekend at Barcelona
The last WorldSSP300 event of 2024 will be an emotional one for Füsport - RT Motorsports
by SKM - Kawasaki. After a long and successful period in motorsport, team managers Rob
Vennegoor and Frank Krekeler have decided to end their joint activities after this season. A
decision that was not taken lightly, but proved necessary.
A look back at the successes
Since the start of their partnership between RT Motorsports (Rob) and SKM (Frank) in 2009,
when they won the Dutch Superbike title with Gareth Jones, Rob and Frank have built up an
impressive record. In 2022 and 2023, they won the IDM Supersport 300 title and in the
WorldSSP300 class, they achieved outstanding performances with different drivers in the
period 2019 - 2024:
- 4 pole positions
- 9 (+2) victories
- 9 second places
- 10 third places
Special mentions go to Tom Booth Amos, who finished second in the championship in 2021
with 2 wins and 6 second places, and Inigo Iglesias, who already recorded 3 (+2) wins in
2024 and still fighting for the world title.
IDM success 2019-2023:
66x podium, 21x win, 2x title
Disappointment and pride
Despite the great results, Rob and Frank are not only proud, but also disappointed. The
coveted world title seems to remain out of reach in their final season, partly due to decisions
by the race direction.
Team manager Rob Vennegoor puts it as follows:
“The decisions of the race direction are painful for our result and affect the championship
negative. In Catalunya and Most, the victory was taken away from Inigo and in Aragon he
got a double longlap penalty, which makes it almost impossible to win the title. After
everything that happened in 2021, there is a risk of losing the title again,
which will not be decided on the track, which is disappointing.
But we can also be proud of what we have achieved in recent years; we celebrated many
victories and titles in the IDM, had many successes in the world championship and showed
how to set up a good structure together with many partners who have been with us for years.
We were a fixture in the paddock with a high level of professionalism; Frank and I created
something very beautiful and with well thought-out choices we were able to experience the
successes, we can be proud of that.”
Time for reflection
After taking this difficult decision, it is time for Rob and Frank to go their separate ways and
reflect on the future. Rob does not rule out remaining active in motorsport in the future, but
first wants to wait and see in which role he can remain active. Frank and Rob thank all
financial en technical partners, team members, drivers, Dorna organization and others
involved for the great time and successes.
Even though Füsport - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki might stop, the memories of this
special team will live on. A team that always fought for victory and achieved a lot in it. It is a
fitting tribute to the passion and dedication of Rob Vennegoor, Frank Krekeler and everyone
who was part of this wonderful team.
But before that happens, Jerez is next and Inigo still has a chance of winning the
WorldSSP300 title. Everything and everyone within Füsport - RT Motorsports by SKM -
Kawasaki is going to pull out all the stops to ensure the best possible ending despite all the
challenges: saying goodbye with hopefully the WorldSSP300 2024 title!
