After already concluding the IDM Supersport 300 season last week, the final WorldSSP300 race weekend was scheduled for FÜSPORT - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki last weekend. The venue was the beautiful Portimão circuit in southern Portugal. Prior to the weekend, expectations were high for Petr Svoboda, who was looking to take his revenge at Portimão after a difficult weekend at Aragon, but was still searching for his rhythm on Friday.
A five-spot grid penalty and longlap - for riding too slowly between sectors – and armpump did not help, as it forced him to start from P19. After a challenging Race 1, he also crossed the finish line in 19th place, directly behind his teammate Troy Alberto. For both Troy and Petr, there might still have been World Championship points in it, had the race not been red-flagged just before the end due to a crash.
Sunday was also challenging unfortunately, with Petr having to retire just before the end of the race and Troy finishing 19th with a three-second penalty.
Thanks to two wins and three podiums, Petr finished 6th in the final standings with 121 points. Troy finished the season on P35, with two points.
Team manager Rob Vennegoor: 'Although the weekend at Portimão didn't go as hoped, we have had a fantastic season. With Petr's double victory at the TT Circuit in Assen as the absolute highlight. It is unfortunate that he got it a little tougher towards the end of the season, but let's mostly remember the great moments of 2023. We do the same with Troy, who has once again confirmed he can learn a huge amount and I am sure he can still make a lot of progression. Although the winter break has officially started, our focus is already fully on 2024. Thanks for all the support this year and on to a fantastic new season. We can't wait for the first winter tests.’
